Intelligent Manhole Cover Management System
As an important part of the urban drainage system, manholes are spread widely and in large numbers. In recent years, the “deadly manhole cover” events occurred time and time again. In rainy seasons, the phenomena of “city in the sea” are very frequent. Under such condition, a lot of problems are caused, such as the “trap” produced by manhole cover defects, waterlogging caused by the blocked water drainage underground, missing of manhole cover and so on. All these have resulted in a lot of major safety hazards and loss of life and property while causing traffic jam.
In April 2013, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development promulgated the “Notice on Further Strengthening the Safety Control of Urban Manhole Covers” which required that the sectors including urban water supply, water drainage, fuel gas, heating power, house estate (real estate), power, telecommunication, radio and television and so on should manage the manhole covers in a digitized way, in order to achieve an effective supervision and control of social resources and to protect the physical safety of the masses.
Intelligent Manhole Cover Management System
The NB-IOT manhole cover monitor unit, developed based on the shake detection, underground water-level detection and inclination detection, can monitor the condition of manhole cover in real time. When the manhole cover is turned or vibrates violently, the unit will give an alarm and notify the monitor center immediately.
The manhole cover is provided with the electronic lock which can be controlled remotely, so as to strengthen the security of manhole cover. It can be remotely unlocked under authorization.
The NB-IOT-based manhole cover monitor and management platform is provided to unify the management of manhole covers by different urban sectors and to improve the efficiency of management and control.
The mobile APP can also be used to monitor the condition of manhole cover, receive the alarm message and so on.
Role of NB-IOT Manhole Cover Monitoring Unit
The unit is easy to install. It is fixed to the inside of the intelligent manhole cover with screws. It is applicable to the intelligent transformation of most manhole covers on the road.
Monitor the turning angle of manhole cover to determine whether it is opened abnormally. In case of abnormality, the unit will immediately send alarm messages to the back-end.
Monitor the vibration intensity of manhole cover to determine whether it is in abnormal condition. In case of abnormality, the unit will immediately send alarm messages to the back-end. Advanced technology ensures an accurate judgment of cover condition. The unit will not give an alarm mistakenly when the manhole cover vibrates after being crushed by large vehicles. The general false alarm rate is lower than 2‰.
Monitor the underground water level to determine whether the manhole cover is blocked or waterlogged. In case of abnormality, the unit will immediately send alarm messages to the management platform.
Monitor the condition of manhole cover: Monitor the condition of manhole cover in real time. Once the manhole cover is unusually opened or moved, the unit will give an alarm and launch the handling mechanism.
Deploy and remove monitoring units: As the actual situation requires, deploy and remove the manhole cover monitoring units to prevent false alarm and excessive alarm.
Dispatch servicemen: In case of abnormalities, servicemen will be sent to the scene. The person in charge will be provided with the work order to check the maintenance.
Soundness report query: The condition signals regularly sent by the monitoring unit will be received and recorded.
Unified management by multiple sectors: Through the operation and maintenance platform, the manhole covers of all sectors, such as power, water-related affairs, communication and so on, will be managed in a unified manner.
Visualization of cover information: Check the information about the manhole covers distributed in different locations on the map by the region, and have an understanding of the distribution of manhole covers.
The honeycomb-based narrow band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) has become an important branch of the IOT. Developed based on the honeycomb, NB-IoT consumes only about 180KHz of bandwidth. It can be directly deployed in GSM network, UMTS network or LTE network to reduce the deployment cost and achieve a smooth upgrade.
